An incredible getaway that combines adventure and relaxation. This 9-day southern circuit and Zanzibar trip pairs a wildlife encounter across two national parks with a relaxed beach experience by the Indian Ocean and a taste of Zanzibar coastal culture. The tour starts in Dar es Salaam and ends in Zanzibar.
Picked up in the morning from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and driven to Nyerere National Park, about a 5-hour drive with a lunch break along the way. Arrive in the late afternoon and check in, followed by an evening boat cruise on the Rufiji River — one of Africa's five greatest rivers — watching hippos, crocodiles and birds against a spectacular sunset.
A full day game drive with a professional guide, looking for elephant, giraffe, lion, buffalo, zebra and the rare wild dog. Picnic lunch is served near a water source where animals come to drink.
After breakfast and a packed lunch, drive to Mikumi National Park, arriving in the late afternoon or evening, with the possibility of a game drive along the way to spot zebra, impala, giraffe and elephant.
A full day game drive with packed lunches, spotting a wide variety of birds, zebra, hippo, hartebeest, wildebeest, impala, warthog, eland, giraffe, buffalo and elephant.
Continue game drives or a walking safari around Mikumi until noon, then take a flight to Zanzibar Island. Our driver meets you at the airport for the transfer to your hotel in Stone Town. In the evening, visit Forodhani Gardens for Zanzibari seafood and a taste of local nightlife.
A Stone Town city tour starting at 09:00, followed by lunch and a Prison Island tour, famous for giant tortoises, an old prison, and snorkelling.
After breakfast and check-out, a spice tour exploring the tastes and smells of Zanzibar cuisine — cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, cloves and more — with lunch served at the spice farm. In the afternoon, head to Nungwi beach for the rest of the day at leisure.
A day relaxing at the beach — sun, swimming, volleyball — with beautiful sunsets over the ocean in the evening.
Hotel pick up at 7am for the drive to Mnemba Atoll, Zanzibar's most important marine conservation area, followed by a boat trip with snorkelling equipment provided. A 7-kilometre coral reef and pods of bottlenose dolphins are among the highlights. Depending on your flight schedule, transfer to the airport for your journey home.
